What is ALAFAR
The Latin American Association of Refractory Manufacturers is a non-profit civil association with its secretariat located in Contagem, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
According to its by laws the main goals of ALAFAR are:
• Give technical assistance to the Latin American companies in the specific field of refractory materials.
• Promote the scientific exchange related to the refractory industry among its members.
• Promote the regional interests of the refractory industry.
• Promote the development of technicians and specialized workforce.
• Promote and publish specific literature and participate in refractory related congresses.
• Promote the correct nomenclature and classification of refractory products and keep updated statistics on the refractory industry.
History
At the end of July 1965, ILAFA was promoting its annual congress in Santiago, Chile, and for the first time different associations of Latin American refractory manufacturers were officially invited. This invitation brought together members of ASOFAMAR (Argentina), ABRAFAR (Brazil) and Asociación de Cerámica y Vidrio (Chile). Through this meeting it was possible to gather common criteria, goals and intentions, of the Latin Americans members, which became written in the Declaración de Santiago (Declaration of Santiago), which established the basis for ALAFAR. Finally on 27th of April 1967, the document Acta Constitutiva of the Asociación Latinoamericana de Fabricantes de Refractarios was signed, and ALAFAR was founded.

Companies that produce raw materials, machinery and equipments for the refractory industry, and also those entities that can contribute to the achievement of the goals of the Association.
Correspondent Members
Those institutes and associations of refractory, of ceramics, scientific, Universities, which regards to the industry and allows reciprocity in the exchange of information.
